God’s Purpose For Studying His Word - Part 7

2 Timothy 2:15

“15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

There is no glory in doing something that God pronounces a ‘woe’ on.  If Jesus would have turned water into intoxicating wine, his disciples might have believed him to be in favour of drunkenness.  However, Jesus Christ did not come to cause people to sin, but rather to know Him as the Saviour and to trust in Him for their salvation.

Proverbs 20:1

“1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.”

Proverbs 23:29-35

“29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?

30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.

31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.

32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.

33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.

34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.

35 They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.”

God knows everything, and He knows the effects of alcoholic drink on man.  Some want to argue that they can handle their liquor.  To those we say, read Proverbs 20:1 very carefully.  Sadly, anyone who wants to defend drinking is deceived and not wise.

There is also much confusion with regard to salvation.  Some suggest that a person does not need to know Jesus Christ to be saved.  Some have suggested that you can keep your old sinful lifestyle, just trust in Jesus to save you.  Some suggest that there will be another opportunity for some after death to be saved.  Many professing Christians like their wicked rock music and all the baggage that goes with that.  An honest study of who God is and what He provides in salvation will clearly dismiss all the liberal views out there with regard to salvation and the Christian walk.  We can know the truth if we will take God’s Word as the truth and study it to meet God’s approval, not man’s.
