God’s Purpose For Studying His Word - Part 9

2 Timothy 2:15

“15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

The song writer speaks of having an anchor that keeps the soul stedfast and sure though the billows roll.

Hebrews 12:1, 2

“1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Looking unto Jesus.  He is the rock upon which the Christian builds.  We can enjoy great blessings when we trust God and follow His way.  We do not need to be wondering if there is a lie somewhere in the Bible.  We do not need to wonder if what God says regarding salvation is enough.  We do not need to wonder if what God says about walking with Him is right.  We have the word of truth.  That needs to be a settled fact in the mind of the born again Christian.  Then we move on with studying this word of truth — God’s Word.

There are those who prove their pride by suggesting that there are mistakes in the Word of God and then these individuals are so foolish as to think they can correct God’s Word.  There are over 100 perversions of God’s word on the market today, each suggesting they have only changed God’s Word to make it clearer and more accurate.  Those who follow these perversions demonstrate that utter failure of this effort through their worldly living.  God’s Word is truth and we can have confidence in It.  It is important to rightly divide this word of truth.  Let us never forget that our study of God’s Word is to be approved unto God.  Godly men will agree with God’s Word, but the first priority in the study of God’s Word is to have His approval on our study.  Let us be students of God’s Word and be grounded in the truth.
