Identity of a Christian - Part 8

1 Peter 2:1-10

v.6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

Peter is drawing from several O.T. passages in this quote (Isaiah 8:14, 28:16, Psalm 118:22).  All of these verses speak of Jesus Christ as the corner stone.  He is the chief corner stone.  There is none greater than he.  It is shameful and indeed wicked to try to diminish the place and importance of Jesus Christ.  Many of the Jews of Peter’s day were guilty of doing this.  Today there are many who are also guilty of trying to diminish Jesus’ place and His deity.  However, He is still the chief corner stone.  He is elect - specifically chosen by God to be the Saviour of mankind.  He is precious - there is none more precious than He is.  John the baptist understood how precious He was and declared in John 1:29:

John 1:29

“29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”

No one else could take away the sin of the world.  Jesus Christ has provided the means for all to be saved!  That word confounded in I Peter 2:6 means to dishonour, to disgrace, to put to shame.  No one who had ever put their trust in the sacrifices of Jesus Christ has ever been ashamed.  Certainly lost people have mocked Jesus Christ.  They have mocked His salvation.  But those who have been saved have been made sons of God.  The shall not be confounded.  Full provision for salvation has been provided through the blood of Jesus Christ.  The thief on the cross was promised eternal life that very day that Jesus died on the cross.  The reason he could have that eternal life is because on the cross that Jesus died, prior to His death, He declared: “It is finished”.  Jesus paid the penalty in full that mankind owed.  Jesus Christ was and is that seed of the woman that would come and bruise the head of the serpent.  The devil is called the “god of this world” however he does not have the power to keep man away from God.  Anyone that will listen to God and will come to Him in repentance and putting his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ will be saved!.  That is a guaranteed fact.
